钓鱼台因八百年前金代章宗皇帝于此垂钓而得名，历为皇家园林。明代成为盛极一时的浏览胜地，清代又作为行宫别院，乾隆皇帝亲书“钓鱼台”匾额。中华人民共和国成立后，钓鱼台成为国宾馆，主要接待来自世界各国的国家元首、政府首脑及知名人士。
钓鱼台国宾酒产于国酒之乡茅台镇，系钓鱼台国宾馆开发的历史名酒。清朝乾隆十年，贵州总督张广泗经乾隆御批开修赤水河，方便赤水河上游古朴神秘的茅台镇“酒冠黔人国，盐登赤虺河”赤水河竣工之日，张广泗临河查看，见茅台镇烧房盛众，酒香四溢，便将茅台美酒献与乾隆品尝，乾隆饮后十分赞赏，定为贡品。乾隆三十八年，钓鱼台重新装缮完工，乾隆皇帝在钓鱼台这座皇家花园中用茅台美酒宴请诸国宾朋和大臣以示庆贺。
钓鱼台国宾酒工艺古老，配制独特，包装精美，秘不外传，具有酱香突出，空杯留香的风格。酒瓶采用江苏宜兴紫砂陶，按乾隆三十八年贡品精制，内盛数十年老酒，堪称酒中经典。
